East Coast Railway regain Kalahandi Cup

East Coast Railway regained Kalahandi Cup, the symbol of supremacy in the Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament, after a gap of two years, defeating Cuttack-A on the basis of first innings lead on the last day of their four-day final match, which ended in a draw at Ravenshaw University ground here today.

Riding on a big century by Samit Mohanty, East Coast Railway made 369 in the first innings. In reply, Cuttack-A were bowled out for 241. After taking a first innings lead of 28 runs, East Coast Railway were 446 for eight in the second innings when the match ended in a draw.

The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while the runners-up were given Rs 15,000. East Coast Railway Sports Association president Dillip Samantaray handed over the trophy at the closing function. OCA secretary Asirbad Behera, treasurer Satya Mohanty, joint-secretary Sanjib Kumar Dutta, Odisha Ranji team coach Debasis Mohanty and OCA CEO Bidyut Kumar Nayak were present on the occasion.
